Film Guru Lad's Top 8 Movies of 2011 (Updated)

Having missed out or already watched of some of the best movies that were made and released in the last year of 2011, well, here's top 8 of them.

#8. Thor

I still consider THOR to be the
movie of the gods, definitely
some of Marvel's finest work.
This film has everything, an all
star cast like Chris Hemsworth,
Anthony Hopkins, Natalie
Portman, Tom Hiddleston and
others, the perfectly-choreographed
action sequences, comedy, 3D
aspect and the one thing I didn't
mention in this review are the
stunning visuals that take the
viewers to a different world.

Another sequel that is better
than the original, JOHNNY
ENGLISH REBORN has all the
action and laughs, but it was
pretty impressive for a
continuation of a James Bond
parody film and even Rowan
Atkinson has showed his
acting in superiority.

Darker but funnier than its
predecessor, KUNG FU
PANDA 2 has gotten more
kung-fu action but also
brings a new villain that
is voiced by Gary Oldman
and something that the first
movie didn't have are a
couple of plot points that
were unresolved.

I really consider DARK OF THE
MOON to be an improvement
over the second 'Transformers'
movie because the Autobot
twins are removed and it was
shown in 3D, but it still has
those great visuals and I
always thought that it was
the last of the film series.

I never watched any of the
'Fast & Furious' films but the
fifth one is extremely an
action-packed extravaganza
and is loaded with cars,
shotguns, humour and actor
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

The final chapter of the series,
HARRY POTTER AND THE
DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 2
was the best finale to a fantasy
saga that takes us on a journey
of wizardry, magic, friendship,
creatures and evil villains like
Harry's nemesis, Lord
Voldermort. Defintely one
of the greatest final conclusions
to a movie franchise.

More watchable than the original,
the 3D conversion of THE LION
KING helped to be more realistic
and bring old movies that were
released in the three-dimension
and not only it was appealing to
the fans, but it did attract a new
generation of people young and
old to revisit Simba and other
characters in this ultimate
experience of a timeless animated
blockbuster that really find its
place in the Circle of Life.

With REAL STEEL, it had really
incredible robot-boxing action
that amazes everyone when
they see that robots are fighting
each other in a match, but it
also shows drama which is
the relationship of the main
character and his son. No
wonder Shawn Levy had
directed this picture, it
should rank as the top
movie of 2011.
